Cocoa Lucht
Cocoa is a seven year old guinea pig that lives with his “Mom” and “Dad” in Maple Grove. He came to his home in 2003 from the Golden Valley Humane Society. He is a sweet, affectionate guinea pig that is especially bonded to his Mom. He loves to hang out in his Pigloo. Cocoa has had two cystotomies in his life (surgery to remove bladder stones). This is not an uncommon problem in guinea pigs. Cocoa’s Mom noticed him vocalizing when he was urinating. Other signs of bladder stones can be bloody urine, or general “not feeling well” such as decreased appetite or energy.
Cocoa takes a medication called Ursodiol to try to minimize stone recurrence. He has also had his molars trimmed several times. This, too, is a common problem for guinea pigs, as their molars grow continuously and can overgrow. We enjoy seeing Cocoa and hearing him talk and squeek to us during his visits.
