Kisser & Van Halen
Kisser and Van Halen are kitty "brothers" that have lived with their current family for 3 years, after dad got them from friends who named them after favorite music groups. They became patients at South Hyland in the fall of 2008. Kisser came in for staggering at home, and brother Van Halen came along for the ride.
Kisser was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, dental infection and a cancerous skin tumor. He was put on insulin for his diabetes, but was not responding well until his dental infection was treated. After having his teeth thoroughly cleaned and all infected teeth extracted, as well as three cancerous skin tumors removed, Kisser felt much better. His diabetes improved greatly and is doing well on less insulin. Kisser must have a very generous spirit, as he has tolerated all his extensive ongoing care needs quite happily and calmly.
Van Halen was diagnosed with severe osteomyelitis (bone infection) of the mouth, caused by a dental bacterial infection. He, too, had many teeth extracted in two separate surgeries. His family reports that after having his dental disease thoroughly treated, he was "like a new cat" again, playing and socializing like when he was a kitten. Van Halen is always a little more shy than Kisser, and we have loved gaining his trust as we have gotten to know each other.
We have really enjoyed getting to know Kisser and Van Halen, as well as their nice family. They are such fun cats!
