Dr. James A. Libby

A graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. James A. Libby received his DVM Degree in 1959. As a veterinary student, Dr. Libby excelled academically. He was inducted into Phi Zeta, the National Veterinary Honors Society and was his class representative.

After practicing for several years, Dr. Libby returned to Ohio State University where he pursued graduate studies in Veterinary Preventive Medicine. He was awarded a Master of Science Degree from the Ohio State University in 1965.

Dr. Libby has been a veterinarian at South Hyland Pet Hospital since 1974. Previous to his present position, he was an instructor at the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine and assistant professor at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. He also held a veterinary position at the US Department of Agriculture for 5 years.

Dr. Libby pursued an interest in advanced dentistry starting in 1985 and continues this education process and interest today. He has spoken before other veterinarians on numerous occasions on the subject and regularly handles referral cases from other clinics involving advanced dental problems.

Throughout his veterinary career, Dr. Libby has received numerous awards. He was honored as a distinguished alumnus at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. Veterinarian of the year in Minnesota, Dr. Libby received the Presidential Award from the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association. He has also led South Hyland Pet Hospital to be a past recipient of the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award.

Dedicated to community service, Dr. Libby is a member and past president of the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, charter member and past president of the Lions Club, board member and active participant in the Bloomington Education Foundation and was appointed by the Governor to the Minnesota Health Advisory Committee. An active member for 32 years at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Dr Libby also received the WCCO Good Neighbor Award.

Dr. Libby is now retired, but may still come in from time to time to do specialty dentistry work as needed. During his time away from the hospital, Dr. Libby enjoys fishing, golfing and traveling with his wife, Patricia.
